As the world commemorated World AID Day last year in December I couldn’t help but think about the amazing milestone from very amazing stakeholder, partner, funder and the community at large. Thank you so much.
As a young woman growing up, I did not have access to opportunities, information and access to service but the more I got involved, searched for opportunities, made myself available, volunteered in different organization, I got explore and was able to access more opportunities and looked out for mentors.
Today we still see 570 young women ages 15–24 years acquire HIV each week in Uganda, while in rural settings, many young women lack information on HIV prevention options, sexual reproductive health rights, many are affected with the cultural norms, teenage pregnancies, limited access to jobs, they are prone to diseases unknown. The reality is we are all not safe, but the foundation that matters so much. I mean right from an acceptable year to start doing house chores
We can do better by letting Young women and girls take charge in different aspectss of life, be mentored and take up leadership space for policy change. we need to level up, find our passion and purpose. Today, I urge young women to;
- Believe in yourself: Have confidence in your abilities and embrace your unique qualities. Believe that you have the potential to achieve anything you set your mind to.
- Education is important: Focus on your education and acquire knowledge and skills that can help you pursue your interests and goals. Education is the key to unlocking opportunities and building a strong foundation for your future.
- Set goals: Determine what you want to achieve in life, both personally and professionally, and set goals to work towards them. Having clear objectives and a plan in place can help you stay motivated and focused.
- Surround yourself with positive influences: Surround yourself with supportive and positive people who believe in you and your dreams. It’s important to have a strong support system that encourages and uplifts you during both successes and setbacks.
Community-led initiatives can lead to more sustainable and inclusive development. By empowering local communities to take charge of their own needs and priorities, we can ensure that development efforts are tailored to the specific context and are more likely to have a lasting impact.
I believe we shall be able to see more empowered girls and young women in HIV and Sexual reproductive advocates and all other development partitioners at the fore front of very social problem in communities.
