Uganda and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to construct Kidepo International Airport, which will be Uganda’s second-biggest airport after Entebbe. The airport is set to start construction in August 2024 and will be located near Kidepo National Park in northern Uganda. This project aims to boost Uganda’s tourism sector, which was heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The airport will allow international tourists to land directly at Kidepo National Park, enhancing their experience and attracting more visitors to the country. The construction of Kidepo International Airport is seen as a significant step in Uganda’s tourism industry, which recovered 82.6% of its pre-pandemic levels in 2023. The government has also embarked on the rehabilitation of roads leading to Uganda’s tourist attractions to enhance the experience of foreign tourists and attract more international visitors.
