The President revealed his plan to eliminate corruption, backed by evidence against the perpetrators. Museveni’s speech follows recent sanctions by the UK and U.S. on Speaker Anita Among and two former ministers, Goreti Kitutu and Agnes Nandutu, for misusing public funds.
Museveni criticized opportunistic politicians and unregulated money lenders, directing the Finance Minister to cap high-interest rates. He praised the current Parliament leadership for supporting the government and emphasized the need to differentiate between mistakes and dishonesty in fighting corruption. Museveni concluded by stating he has proof of collusion between MPs and ministry accounting officers to misappropriate funds.
